Développement d’une méthode de classification automatisée des milieux humides et des milieux riverains en forêt boréale

Publication Type: Technical Report

Author: Breton, M.N., M. Darveau et J. Beaulieu

Date: 2005

In this study, we propose an automated method for identifying wetland and riparian habitats in the boreal forest. This method is based on a wetland habitat classification system published in 1997 by Rempel et al. in the Journal of Wildlife Management, which originally used aerial photography. Instead of visually differentiating wetland criteria from air photos, the classification technique has been translated into a series of spatial queries adapted to the forest inventory maps (3rd edition; scale 1:20 000) of the Quebec Ministry on Natural Resources, Wildlife, and Parks. ESRI ArcView and ArcGIS software were used to conduct the analysis.
